Black Omega progress update

Dear players, fans and followers!

This "status update" is long overdue, but we are still hopeful about making these updates more regular. With our recent "forum trouble" hanging over our heads, we don't want to raise any further suspicions about the "death" of this project, so here is the update!

Scripting:

We have created the basic functional versions of pilot selection menu, main menu, settings menu, single-player menu and so-colled "campaign engine", a set of script classes allowing us to easily create campaigns with briefings, debriefings and any logic associated with it. We have created data definitions (XML files loaded by scripts) for missions 1 through 4 and all their sub-missions. Currently, our GUI system uses visually unappealing default skin. Proper skins, designed with game theme in mind, will be introduced later.

Engine:

We are now very close to achieving our major goal - a flyable, pilotable spacecraft in our brand-new engine. After that, we will start making actual ingame missions. We have working backgrounds with star fields (same as in old engine, but looking better), mission classes (allowing multiple missions and locations at the same time which we will, hopefully, exploit in Black Omega), ships, subsystems and so on. The engine is growing and soon enough it will finally let us fly just like before, but with so much more game design options.

Sound:

Recently, we have found a few rather small missing voice parts and will have them recorded as soon as possible. Also, music files (menu loops, briefings, combat loops, ambient loops, arrival events) are being cut, edited and prepared for use. Some of them are used in our test mixes featuring our voice stars.

Models:

Right now, we are making the in-game model of EA Freighter, Deltawing Fighter and the interior of some larger space ship. Also, we are making a prototype of our new Starfury 3D HUD and Starfury Cockpit (front and back). Also, we are making EA flight suit and helmet, which will make "multiple appearances" in Black Omega.

Summary:

Though it could have certainly gone faster, we are making good progress! And just like any of you, we can't wait to make our first in-game screen shots. We are doing everything to get started with getting VISUAL results of our work. Stay tuned!
