How exactly would you like to use capital ships? If you want to fire from a turret, you can create a mission, as shown in [urlhttp://ifhgame.ru/forums/index.php?showtopic=691]this thread[/url]. If you want to command several ships like in RTS, then you need RTS, not a space sim.

well you could always go down the same line as the "battle cruiser milenium" games or "vega strike" where you command a capship and launch fighters ect. and co-ordinate battles (by ordering fighters to strike targets) while the turrets are AI controled. but personally that would chainge the game compleatly but I guess it could work for small missions. though personally I'd rather fly a fury during a massive battle. much more fun

Along the lines of the more ship options title of the thread; just before the website was changed a skirmish pack upgrade was mentioned that suggested plays would be able to use alien races fighters in skirmish. (esp Sentry, dying to fly a sentry). Anyone know whats happening with that?

An easy solution would be to let people control an omega destroyer the same way they control a fighter with a little bit of targeting or camera leverage(like a bounding box that your crosshairs and targeting can use), use the communications to command individual guns and have direct control over the lasers. You could also spawn fighters(a set amount of course) which could be controlled like wingmen regularly are. If you were really savvy, you would find some way to toggle between controlling turrets or piloting the ship, giving AI control to what you are not doing(and of course being able to command the AI from what point you are playing on the ship). Now that I think about it, you could have a turret spot where you can look in any direction for targeting to give to the AI.
